New knit!

Since I’ve been home, not much knitting has been going on.  I did finish a neckwarmer though.   I used some leftover Malabrigo for it.  I really like it, but I actually liked it better before blocking.  After blocking, the yarn fuzzed up a bit.  The cables aren’t as sharp as they were.

Feather and Fan Shawl. Done!

I’m not completely thrilled with it.  There are some things that could have been solved with better blocking.  I should have blocked it a bit more aggressively, but I was afraid to damage it.  I don’t think anybody but another knitter would notice the couple things I don’t like about it.  Hopefully my mom will love it though.

I am so excited.  So the plan was that Sailor Boy was going to take leave the 12th through the 27th.  For some reason, Her Majesty thought her and I were going to go home early and Sailor Boy was going to fly out and meet us.  I told her that wasn’t the plan, so she decides to ask Sailor Boy if it COULD be the plan.  Of course, since Her Majesty always gets her way, he said he was fine with that.  Which means we get to go home on Tuesday!

I have so much to do.  I finally got the Feather and Fan shawl done and pinned out.  It’s drying as we speak.  The blocking was as much trouble as I thought it was going to be and 300 pins weren’t enough.  I had to run to Joanns to buy more.  I’m not happy with the way it is pinned out but I keep telling myself that it’s hand made and not supposed to be absolutely perfect.  Will post pics when it’s 100% done.

We had our Thanksgiving yesterday.  It was lovely.  Buddy T, Co-worker D, Baby K, Chief, Dr. S and Mr. S came over.  The food was yummy and we had no leftovers (which is kind of nice).  Well, we do have pie left, but that’s it.  I was able to use the placemats my mom sent me.  I told her I bought some pretty fall napkins but that I had no placemats to go with them.  So she found me those.  Keep in mind, I never described the napkins to her, so she had no idea what they looked like.   She just happened to get placemats that went almost perfectly with them.  I love my mama.

Getting close.

I’m on row 180 of 189 on the Feather and Fan Shawl. The closer I get to done, the more nervous I am about blocking it. So far, the only thing I’ve blocked is a scarf and even that wasn’t a whole lot of fun.

I decided to make myself one of those pretty hanging row counters. Someone recommended I add another lobster claw with different color beads on it. Then I can track the rows AND pattern repeats. I really like the way it came out. If it were a little longer (or my wrists weren’t so fat), I could totally use it as a bracelet.

On the “not-so-hot” side of things, I’m having some sort of sinus issues. Allergies or a head cold, I think. I keep sneezing, my eyes are all watery, my nose is either congested or runny. No fever though and other than what’s going on with my head, I don’t feel too bad. I’m ok with this though because hopefully that means if we do get to go home for xmas, I won’t be sick. I’ve been sick the last 3 times I traveled between CA and NM.

Yeah, I’m still here.  I’ve started having panic attacks again.  Well, I had one at any rate.  That was a month ago and since then, I’ve felt much more anxious than normal.  I cut out caffeine thinking that may have been the culprit.  It wasn’t.  So I’m trying to deal.

I am knitting.  Just working on a big project that’s taking a while.  I decided to knit the Feather and Fan shawl from A Gathering of Lace for my mama’s xmas gift.  It’s actually going better than expected.  Although I have no clue how it will block out.  I’m not so great with the blocking.  Especially since from what I’ve read, this one requires hundreds of pins.

Poor neglected blog.

So it’s been over a month since I updated. A lot happened in that month. We went to MO for Private Pinhead’s graduation. That was nice. We had a good time. My mom ended up in the hospital. That was NOT nice. Things were pretty bad but we didn’t realize how bad until the nurse came in and asked if she had a DNR order. She does and we’ve always known that, but when you’re faced with the reality, it’s a bit different. We said no. Which she pretty much yelled at us for once she was better. Thankfully, she is doing better. She’s not 100% but hopefully she’ll get there.

Unfortunately, we’re back in San Diego and we all know how miserable that makes me. I’ve always been miserable here but it’s harder now that I know my mom could really use my help with things.

We couldn’t get Her Majesty into a good school, so we are homeschooling. Again. I’m not real happy about that either. We did find one that we’re going to try to get her in next year. It’s a creative and performing arts type school, which is right up her alley.

Here’s my latest knit.

Holy crap, I can’t believe it’s been a month since I posted. Been traveling again, as I seem to do a LOT when I’m here. We spent some time in Colorado Springs. It was gorgeous there, we had a blast and I will post pics later. I also spent some time in Albuquerque visiting family, and we’ve been to Amarillo and Clovis.

Since I finished the scarf, I’ve finished another Koolhaas and two more market bags. Mom and I went to the farmer’s market with the one bag I made her and it wasn’t enough. So she’s asked for several more. I also made a lace doily thing, but I can’t figure out how to block it.

Yesterday while I was out and about, there were some big clouds moving in. Later we got a really cool thunderstorm. The lightning was neat. It was lighting up the sky every few seconds with some really awesome cloud-to-cloud lightning. I was determined to get a pic of a lightning strike (which is pretty damn hard with a crappy little point and shoot). But there was so much of it, I managed to get a few pics.
