On Friday when we were at the pier waiting for Sailor Boy, we see people coming off the ship wearing masks. The captain’s wife is standing with us and informs us that there were some cases of swine flu on the ship. Great. Sailor Boy was sick and Her Majesty and I ended up getting sick on Monday.
I don’t think it’s swine flu though. I’ve had the flu before and it kicked my ass. Even so, whatever I have still sucks. It doesn’t feel like a cold but it doesn’t really feel like the flu. I’ve had a sore throat, cough, headache, body aches and fatigue. No runny nose, sneezing or congestion, which I always get with a cold.
I had to drag my ass out of bed to go grocery shopping today though. I’ve been back almost a week and it needed to be done. We were out of pretty much everything. I definitely miss the days when it was just me, Sailor Boy and Her Majesty. I still would have had to go shopping when I got back, but I wouldn’t have had to buy so much. Since my stock of meat was gone and we were completely out of all condiments, I ended up spending $232.40. That leaves me only $17.60 for the next 2 weeks. That sucks.
I do have some happy news. One of the things I hate about it here is that it’s warm, so we have to leave our window open to get air going through. That means I get to hear sirens, helicopters, and people while I’m trying to sleep. Not to mention that there is a street light right outside our window. So I finally broke down and bought and AC and some blackout curtains. Now my bedroom is like a cold, dark, quiet cave and it’s so much more peaceful.
I hate it when I run out of everything all at once. Those are days, I’d rather just send the chore out to some poor little sucker who must do as I say.
Any idea where I can get one of those?
If I find one, I’ll let you know.
Since I’m still feeling crummy, by the time I was done shopping, I was tired. So it’s several hours later and most of the groceries are still sitting on the table.
I have had probable swine flu this past week and I had it exactly like you described, plus a light fever. According to the advice here in the UK, it is supposed to be milder than regular flu in the majority of cases. So hopefully you did have it and that’s it, over and done with!
Unfortunately, I think this was just a cold. The sneezing/congestion/sinus pain finally hit. I was kinda hoping it was the swine flu so maybe if it came back around, we wouldn’t get it.
